FAQ
Frequently asked questions and answers about BORA and the kitchen appliances.
BORA was founded in 2007 by Willi Bruckbauer, a master carpenter from Rosenheim who wanted to reinvent the extractor hood.
Which brand is better suited to your kitchen depends on your expectations. BORA stands out primarily for its innovative technology and design-focused aesthetic, commanding higher prices typical of premium kitchens. Siemens, on the other hand, offers a wide range of appliances with varying features across different price points. If you are planning a designer kitchen, BORA is certainly the better choice. However, if you are looking for a large selection of different appliances that share a unified design, we would recommend Siemens. You can also combine the two brands effectively, selecting the best products from each manufacturer.
With the BORA cooktop, steam is drawn downwards (unlike with a conventional range hood, where it is extracted upwards or to the side). Depending on the extraction method selected, the steam is either cleaned and filtered before being released back into the room (recirculation mode) or vented outside through exhaust ducts (extraction mode).
The price of a BORA cooktop with an integrated extractor depends on the model and type of extraction system you choose. The modular Professional and Classic systems are generally more expensive than the compact models in the Pure series. Plan for a budget of approximately €1,800 to €4,000.
It depends on your preferences and cooking habits. Basic models like the BORA Pure are well-suited to a wide range of kitchens and come in various sizes: the 60 cm BORA S Pure, for instance, is ideal for small kitchens, while the BORA X Pure Max—featuring five cooking zones across an 80 cm width—is perfect for large households. For those who prefer a more personalized cooking experience and prepare a wide variety of dishes, modular cooktops like the BORA Professional are recommended. With this system, you can individually plan and combine various elements—such as gas or induction cooktops, an extractor, grill plates, and more—to suit your specific needs.
Depending on the model, the BORA filter requires replacement at different intervals. An activated charcoal filter lasts for approximately 150 operating hours (roughly one year—though this naturally depends on usage). The stainless steel grease filter should be cleaned regularly. Proper filter replacement or cleaning ensures that the extractor continues to effectively purify and filter the air over the long term.
